Inspiring minds, changing lives. Celebrating a decade of transformation and impact in global health equity
In Kigali, Rwanda
Nine years ago, in a modest classroom block at the University of Rwanda, the idea behind GHF was born. What began as a small group of young, passionate healthcare professionals has evolved significantly into a powerful force for change, shaping global health. Our mission from the beginning has been clear to cultivate a community of critical thinkers, selfless leaders, and enthusiastic researchers committed to addressing health inequities and enhancing global health outcomes. We have consistently championed the values of being compassionate, accountable, and impactful, striving to transform our world. Recognizing that advancing global health requires empowered individuals who can think critically, lead with empathy, and generate quality evidence for decision-making, we have focused our efforts over the past years on various initiatives to achieve this goal.
Our journey has been marked by significant achievements and transformational impacts. We have built a robust network of leaders and researchers across Africa and Asia, and through collaborations with international organizations, the GHF GHF community has contributed to significant global health initiatives. Our contributions to top-tier journals worldwide stand as a testament to the high-quality mentorship and the profound influence of our movement. Each individual within our network embodies the collective effort that has positively transformed our world.
It is only fitting for us to come together next year in Rwanda to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of GHF. This milestone is not just a celebration but an opportunity to reflect on our remarkable achievements and strategize for the future. We look forward to evaluating our accomplishments and charting a bold course for the years ahead. Most importantly, we aim to provide an opportunity to reunite our alumni, fostering a strong sense of community, shared learning, and collaboration. This gathering will inspire and propel our collective efforts forward, ensuring that our movement continues to make a profound impact on global health.

To spotlight and celebrate the impact of GHF within the wider international development community, we will be hosting a one-day Global Health conference in Rwanda. This conference will serve as a unique platform to bring together our alumni from around the world, along with distinguished partners and stakeholders in the global health sector, to deliberate on the current state of global healthcare within the context of a post-pandemic world and to propose cross-sectoral, cutting-edge strategies to address global health inequities.
The conference, themed 'The Role of Young People in Advancing Global Health Outcomes: Education, Research, and Leadership,' will emphasize the significant contributions of youth in shaping the present and future of global health. Young people are leading the charge in educational initiatives, conducting groundbreaking research, spearheading transformative projects, and driving innovative healthcare solutions. By empowering and supporting young leaders, we can leverage their energy, creativity, and vision to advance global health and build a healthier, more equitable world.
The conference will specifically highlight the significant work done by young people to address health inequities, enhance public health outcomes, and promote sustainable health practices worldwide. We will draw on our work with young people over the past nine years, as well as contributions from other stakeholders and partners, to demonstrate the significant role that young people can play in global healthcare when given the right support, mentorship, and empowerment.
The conference will feature keynote speeches, panel sessions with stakeholders in global health education, various workshops, and parallel sessions that highlight specific contributions young people have made to advance global health equity and outcomes.
